In the heart of Edinburgh, amidst the grandeur of the Royal College of Physicians, a memorable event unfolded over the weekend of March 22nd to 24th, 2024. Delving into the captivating world of Royalcore aesthetics, attendees were transported into a world of fantasy, majestic courts and adventure. This ball celebrates vibes in books and shows such as such as Outlander, Merlin, Shadow and Bone, Twin Crowns many others.

As guests arrived, they were greeted by statues of angels adorning the exterior of the building, which were lit with fiery red light, setting the tone for the evening’s festivities. Awaiting them was a grand staircase adorned with flickering candles and delicate roses, leading them to the threshold of the ballroom. At the top of the stairs, a welcoming glass of Prosecco awaited, signalling the commencement of an unforgettable evening.

Stepping into the ballroom was akin to entering a scene from a bygone era. A symphony of red and gold enveloped the space, with marbled led to a ceiling of statues that felt like it was from a different world. The stage, adorned with golden trees, served as the focal point for the evening’s entertainment. As guests settled into their surroundings, the esteemed host, King Daniel, took centre stage, heralding the commencement of the festivities. The evening commenced with a series of captivating performances. The Covent Garden Minuet Company transported guests back in time with their enchanting rendition of an 18th-century dance. Sparks flew as skilled sword fighters engaged in a duel in honour of King Danny. Inspired by their display of skill, guests were invited to partake in sword fighting later in the evening, under the tutelage of Brodie Toriarti.

Guests were then invited to join the historical dancers and passed the evening away learning how to dance to movements from the 18th century. The library beckoned with many of its array of activities, including a stall featuring royal core-themed books by guest authors L R Lam and Hannah Kanner. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the authors in person, engaging in lively discussions and securing signed copies of their works. Meanwhile, the Knight’s Vault invited guests to try out real swords and a photo booth where they could unleash their inner warrior. From tarot card readings by Bewitching Fates to personalised fashion designs by Euriell Vaire Creations, guests explored the library, a place for thousands of stories to be told.

As the night progressed, attention turned to the crowning of the best costume of the ball. Many guests spent months putting together intricate gowns and suits, showcasing their creative skills and passion for making one-of-a-kind looks. Our gracious host, adorned with regal splendour, asked all those who had made their own looks to stand by the stage and receive applause from the audience for their work. Then, King Danny selected his favourite of each night. Winners were crowned with a Sweet V crown and given signed copies of the books written by our guest authors.

And with that, the ballroom lights dimmed as the DJ took to the stage, weaving a tapestry of fantasy-inspired melodies that filled the air with magic. Guests twirled, danced and forged new friendships amidst the timeless elegance of the Royalcore Ball. The songs were a mix of fantasy hits, Booktok favourites and nostalgic songs like pop-punk anthems and the occasional musical theatre belter.

. As attendees bid farewell to the hallowed halls, they carried with them not only memories of a magical evening but also many found new friends to keep going on fantasy-themed adventures with! We can’t wait to be back next year!
